Tumor
The tumor is primarily observed via mammography or breast
MRI to diagnose the condition. Breast cancer is staged
according to the characteristics of the cells and extent
of proliferation.
Stage 0 or carcinoma
Stage 0 or carcinoma in situ is still categorized as at
risk for breast cancer without the presence of the
disease itself. Lobular carcinoma in situ or LCIS define
the abnormal cells lining in a breast gland. Ductal carcinoma
in situ or DCIS define the abnormal cells lining in a breast
duct.
Stage I is defined as breast
cancer
Stage I is defined as breast cancer
in its early stages wherein the tumor measures
less than 2 centimeters across and has not yet spread.
Stage II is also breast cancer
Stage II is also breast cancer in its early stage wherein
the tumor measures 2 to 5 centimeters; or greater than 5
centimeters without spread; or less than 2 centimeters but
has spread to underarm lymph nodes.
Stage III is locally advanced breast
cancer
Stage III is locally advanced breast cancer wherein the
tumor is measures more than 5 centimeters across and has
spread to underarm lymph nodes; has spread extensively to
underarm lymph nodes; or has spread to remote lymph nodes
in the collar bone or breastbone.
Stage IV is metastasis breast
cancer
Stage IV is metastasis breast cancer wherein the cancer
has spread to other areas of the body outside the breast.
Treatment
Treatment will depend according to the characteristics
and classification of breast
cancer. There are a variety of treatments available
like chemotherapy, surgery and homeopathy. Breast lesions
are observed to modify treatment as ER-positive for hormonal
therapy. Prognosis of early stage breast cancer is
usually good but the late stages, like other cancers are
not.
